Sister Leonarda asked the group for parents' reaction regarding her presentation in the hall on April 2 nd . Queenie said it was informative and was a nice recap of how fundraisers are going. Third grade new parents were helpful and gave suggestions. Queenie said she will take all suggestions into consideration. Gina thought the visuals were very helpful. She said Mrs. Lee's presentation regarding alumni achievements was very good. Rosanna said it was great to hear about the successes of Holy Angels students. She also said that the meeting was "very respectful of our time" because it did not take too long. The giveaways were also good. The handouts made the presentation about the fundraisers clear. Sister Leonarda mentioned that the rodeo raffle was not planned. She also told the group about the suggestions from the faculty - to start on time and to have an early-bird raffle instead. Roberto said the presentation was excellent, "everything fit into place," "our kids have a great resource here." Grace said the facts were presented the way they are and made parents understand where we are in our fundraising efforts. Queenie thought the meeting was important and it showed where the money is going. May said it was a positive meeting and parents expressed support. She said that during that night they were able to collect $204 from parents. May also suggested that we videotape meetings so parents who cannot attend can watch. Sister Leonarda said that she still has to get the list of parents who did not attend the meeting from Mrs. Reich. As in the past, she will call each of them and have them schedule a meeting with her. Sister Leonarda also told the group that the amount $60,000 looks "scary" but if we reach our spring festival goal and all parents pay tuition, we will be all right. She said that some of the money we are raising will be used towards the purchase of new social studies textbooks.
HAPAC reps report regarding meeting with parents on April 2 nd :
Kinder: Chona said there will be a $200 donation for the kinder booth and the games will be borrowed from Mater Dolorosa. Mr. Rodriguez, 3 rd grade parent, was the contact person. The games will be picked up from Mater Dolorosa on Saturday, April 12 th . The games will be placed near Mary's courtyard and one of the school tents will be used to protect them.
Grade 1: No representative was present to make the report. Sister Leonarda said first grade has sponsors and the food has been ordered. Kim confirmed this when she went to Q-Cup and talked to the owner.
Grade 2: Rida reported that second grade will be able to get a sponsor for $200. May said they have collected almost $500. She also mentioned the possibility of selling gift certicates from El Faro.
Grade 3: Queenie said third grade is working on finding alumni sponsors. She said the cash right now is $250.
Grade 4: Sam told the group that not a lot of parents attended the meeting. He said that Mr. Natan will help find a sponsor for fourth grade. He also said that if the class won't be able to find a sponsor, each family will make a $25 donation.
Grade 5: Roberto said there were about 11 to 12 parents who attended the meeting and the reaction from them was positive. Grace said fifth grade will have a dunk tank. She requested participation from Sister Leonarda or members of the faculty by volunteering to be dunked. Analaura Zelaya will also donate a jumper for the day. Grace also said they will be using a basketball court and that there is a donation for $200 in prizes.
Grade 6: Rosanna said the 6 th graders had a great meeting. Ice cream has been ordered. Carlito will set up the jail. They are still waiting for a "half" sponsor. Rosanna also said that the 6 th grade parents were asked to sell more raffle tickets. Maria gave Sister Leonarda a few names of possible sponsors. They also used the time to talk about outdoor ed.
Grade 7: Kim reported that about 10 parents attended the meeting. Most of the parents attended other class meetings or are HAPAC reps. She said 7 th grade is doing art, face painting, crafts, religious articles and silent auction. She asked if they could get another tent. She also said that Mr. Sabalvaro will do balloon art. Sister Leonarda told Kim and Val that Alice Shu will sponsor their booth by making a donation of $200.
Grade 8: Emy reported that there was good response from 8 th grade parents. She said parents will donate rice. She asked if 1 st grade will be selling lumpia because one of the 8 th grade parents can get a discount for lumpia so they plan to do a combo: barbecue and lumpia with rice. They also plan to sell Spam masubi/sushi. They are still working on finding a sponsor.
Catherine asked that the number of points earned per hour worked be clarified. Last meeting the group agreed that one point will be given per hour worked. Two points per hour for set up and clean up. But according to Mrs. Reich and as stated in the sign up form, it is 2 points per hour. The group agreed to go by what the sign up form states.
Sister Leonarda told the group that the volunteer list will be sent to HAPAC reps next week. Sign up sheets are still coming in the office.
Kim reported that Mrs. Bouska will donate a "jumping house." Roberto asked how booth sponsors will be advertised. The group told him that banners and signs can be hung in the booth and brochures for businesses made available or handed out. Gina mentioned that donors should be acknowledged, e.g., the jumping house to be donated by Mrs. Bouska must have a sign that reads "donated by Mrs. Bouska." She also said that Ariel and Rose Valencerina donated the popcorn machine, but there is no sign on the machine acknowledging their donation.
Sister Leonarda read the preliminary report on sponsorship and donors:
Major sponsors: $2,000 (Sister Leonarda already has a sponsor for this but did not get the money yet.) $1,000 - Maloney Consulting Services, LLC (Alejandra Gonzalez) $500 - Mayflower Express LLC dba Porridge King Restaurant (Alice and Steve Shu) Program AdsInside back page $300 - Dr. Morales Back page - Duggan's Serra Mortuary Full page ($200): Falcon Industrial Supply (Mr. Frank Yu) Barbara Reich Banana Island Restaurant (Alice Shu) QSP/Reader's Digest (Toni Spiteri) One Quarter Page ($50) Time Realty (Jack McCloskey) Simply Uniforms (Yvette Cortes) Booth Sponsors: Kinder - Catherine and Hector Fuerte ($500) Grade 7 - Big Stomach Inc. dba Dim Sum King (Alice Shu) ($200) Donations: QSP/Reader's Digest ($100) Alice Shu ($50) |

George Jackson and Associates $200 gift certificate 2 Best Buy gift certificates for $50 each (Edwin and Maureen Arriola) 2 Porridge King certificates at $25 each (Alice Shu) 2 $30 gift certificates for Banana Island Restaurant (Alice Shu) |
She also read the list of concerns from Mrs. Reich concerning the spring festival.
The booth will need to have 2 tables and 3 chairs in order to spread out to avoid long lines for tickets. Each booth needs to have a container for the tickets. We have a few left from last year. If there are not enough, please make your own. Each grade will count their own tickets. Give Mrs. Reich the total on Monday, April 28 th . Each ticket is worth $.50. All tickets will be the same color. Turn in all receipts for reimbursement by May 1 st so Mrs. Reich can give a financial recap as soon as possible. When making a sign for the booth indicate a price for each item or the number of tickets for each item keeping in mind the actual cost of the products. Have sign in sheets ready ahead of time and have the names either printed or typed. Have workers sign in and out and indicate the time they have worked. Each year there are some names that are not legible so points could not be assigned. |
Gina suggested that the sign in sheet should be separate from the sign out sheet to avoid parents signing out already when they sign in and sometimes putting in an incorrect time. She also said that all food booths will sell drinks too. Drinks will be sold for $1.00 each. She also said that booths should be decorated. She encouraged each class to pick a theme. Gina said that for her Welcome booth she will have a "first class lounge" theme. Kim said she will buy the helium tank. Sister Leonarda said that the school is still working on other guest performers. Gina will provide name tags for HAPAC members. But class HAPAC reps will take care of providing name tags for class volunteers. Gina suggested that there should be a Holy Angels gift shop that will sell items with the name of the school. It was suggested that the alumni booth take care of this.

But she said that the students and their parents should also get a formal congratulatory letter from the principal. She also suggested that they be awarded free dress or other rewards like pencils and free snack. She asked the group to approve this suggestion. The group agreed to implement these suggestions for next school year. Gina said she has templates for the congratulatory letters which she will email to Sister Leonarda.
